I am working on a decent rendition of one of these. The book and web photos I have show a variety of parts used, and placement of them, so it appears there is no one "perfect" version; right up my alley. And this one will go to the track. More photos to follow. MikeV

Posting 1: First a few photos of the engine. This was first put into the replica of the No8 1981 F2 IOM winner. It now has a 600SS light flywheel, kokusan ignition (to replace the tired and rotted Bosch that failed before the Barber trip in 2011), new HC pistons with valve cuts made bigger for the 41/35mm valves, and set of NOS vintage 36mm Dellortos. It will also have an oil cooler using lines to and from from the clutch cover, and oil lines to the cam caps, as was done back then. Plus a few photos of the parts ready; more to follow. MikeV

Best thing you ever did was to retire Mike! This looks like another beauty you will create to add to your collection. #8 is still one of my favorite bikes. Lou

I've seen those tasty looking parts stacks before and they always turned into something great. I'm sure this time will be no different.
Best Regards...

Wow looks great Mike. How did you get the engine so clean? Soda blast? And what size oil line do you run to the heads? I'm planning the same for my bike

Hey Mike...
I noticed you've got a 3.5"x18" rear wheel (FPS?) Where would a mere mortal, such as myself find one of those?
Regards...

Flattop: That rear was from Steve Munro when he was selling piles of Romanelli parts about five years ago. I had this build planned then, and knew the wheel was rare, so I grabbed it; have never seen another one. The FPS wheels are relatively light for aluminum versions of that era ( weigh a Guzzi Lemans FPS version! ) and, apparently, sturdy. Later I bought the standard front wheel from him.

As a side note, Kosman, located in the socialist State of California, used to widen aluminum wheels. Maybe they still do. At the time I had big-tire envy, so had that done to my Lemans rear wheel, just to make things heavier. Notched the swingarm, and got an Avon 150/70-18 on it - probably added even more weight! I also remember seeing a club-race BMW at Sears Point with all the width added to one side - opposite the swingarm - the latter which could not be notched. I have been told that few can tell if the rear wheel centerline does not match the front, as long as it remains parallel with it. That should get some of you thinking.

Jp91: Later today I will post a photo or two (just for Bill) of the oil line parts I plan to use. It will be old school and simple, as was done at the time --- I think. I was too young to remember.

Later, MikeV
