Hi folks, to get the required engine capacity of 1000cc I’ve either had to get blank xr750 flywheels and rebore the crank pin position. Originally they would have got a set from the factory. The easiest method I thought would be a set of evo 883 flywheels. Same stroke as the original lucifer. We’ve heard about them racing before. What could go wrong? It should be easy. The first thing was the oil pump drive, gears wind the wrong way. This was my solution,I’d take a evo gear and machine the teeth off than get a ironhead gear and bore it out. A bit of interference clearance, line up the pump marks lightly press and a little silver solder around each end. Followed by slow cooling in a bucket of lime. Boucher.

Great solution Chris, did you consider a shrink fitting vs press fit and silver?
I like the look of those fox shocks!

Hi Paul, I think it was about 1-2thou interference. Than silver solder on ends. This was the second one as the first was too tight and had cracks in it when it cooled. Boucher.

Chris are the 883 parts cast or powdered metal?
Great work!
Always nice to know how problems are solved!

Paul don’t think they are cast. Hard to machine lots of nice sparks. Boucher

Sounds like it was pretty hard, nothing like getting a light show while machining something!

it doesn't move, it doesn't move, don't worry, great job, what effort does that gear have to make? Not much effort, I think it will be ok!

Thanks Carlo, this was the next problem with trying to fit a different crank into another crankcase. The timing gear was too far out. Had to use a dremel cutter in a die grinder to lower the keyway slot. Than chop it off. All that drives the camshafts is that tiny keyway. Boucher.

Does that key drive a spring-loaded distribution? Do you think it will be enough? If it was a desmo distribution there was no problem, as there is minimal effort in such a distribution.
Try to understand if the effort of the spring distribution will be borne by that key, if that gear breaks or is damaged, you will curse in ancient Aramaic.
