Thanks, Lou,Paul and mike. The search & learning is the best part. It’s what we do best to get something old and worn out and make it nice again. With the right noises. Boucher.

Hi folks, this was another lucky find. A 2-1 xr1000 exhaust all the way from North Carolina. I might be biased but it looks to me it was based on Lucifers exhaust back in the day. I’m told the little sticker is a scrutineers one. So it may have even seen a bit of racing. It’s unbaffled and is very heavy. Boucher.

Hello Chris
There was some interesting stuff on the comparison of new Norton Commando heads in comparison to XR750 head race ports
Norton Commando Motorcycles (Classic) HD XR 750 & Full Auto port conversion

Wow....on the exhaust find.....I cant believe you found that, it does look just like the 2/1 pipe on the Hammer. I have seen pictures too where it looks like he was using the more traditional dirt track style 2/2 long Supertrapp's.
Were there any "famous or semi famous" Australian based XR road racers?? (in the 80's Pro Twins era?)
See ya, Clay

Most everything Harley is heavy! No offense. What a find, that's nice looking 'period' stuff. Lou

Hi folks, Graeme I,ve seen the commando/xr head comparison article. Clay this was a xr1000 engined bike in the mid eighties here in Australia, was raced in the thunderbike class. It ran a bob martin frame and campo wheels katana forks. I actually bought the wheels and brakes for my TT2 replica 3 to 4 years ago. The second picture is the same bike today. Fitted with modern stuff. All history of this bike is now lost. Sad really. Boucher.

I am with you Chris, the updated version does nothing for me... I must be getting old Is it my eyes or the angle of the photo it looks like they changed the steering head angle! That frame is a piece of art! Paul

You are right Chris, they, vintage or historical race bikes, are moving targets. So you aim at one and hit close enough to be be a good rendition of its history. MikeV
