Hello Chris,

Dave Kellet is a very talented fellow, but I don’t know how you managed to get him to find the time to build your frame.
You’re a talented chap too.
Regards
Graeme

Hi folks, with frame being built by Dave kellet, he’s got a shed full of repairs Graeme. I started on the running gear. Very early on a set of dymags were donated by a very good friend, thank you again my friend.16” front and 18” rear as per the original 1987 bike. As with any race bike the continually evolved from year to year. Wheels, exhaust, bodywork and engine. Even though they look the same when you start searching you find the difference. I scored a tank and seat in Australia, brand new. They bought it in from the states to build a salt lake racer. But built a hot rod instead. The original lucifer had 40mm magnesium forks. These are the closest and from the same bott era. They came out of Japan. They would have had a good story behind them, battle scared, the top brackets had been moved on the outer fork leg for a different type caliper. They can be moved on a press with some heat. When I finally painted and assembled them I found out one inner fork tube is 5mm longer than the other. The yokes are bevel ones I already had. The gold line front calipers were off a xr1000 that raced around Australia including Bathurst. It was owned by a guy called brad hadden. Very early bott/thunderbike class here in Australia. The rear caliper was the same as a paso. Engine parts are another story. Boucher

I guess the Epicycle bike was good training for this project Chris. Tough sledding compared to just building a TT2/1 from parts. Neat to see these vintage parts being restored and put to good use. I have looked at those upper caliper brackets on those forks and wondered why they did not look cast on; now I know. MikeV

Hi Boucher, interesting project. I’m not going to attempt a Lucifers Hammer 2 but have recently acquired an RR that I’ll be restoring. It certainly makes the F1 and TT2 look like masterpieces. Bloody non metric bikes!!

Hello Ducati people, one thing I’ve learnt on this build is stuff isn’t available. So you gotta improvise. Sorta like MacGyver, he got things done. Boucher.

File comment: Lucifer ran a motoplat ignition at one time. The replacement now is a PVL type. I couldn’t find the ignition drive gear to I machined the Center out of a sportster gear and pressed it on. The alloy housing were a problem. I could buy two R/H but no left. So I looked at pictures and this was the outcome.

File comment: I chose std evo cylinders for the build. Nice and thick cylinder liner.

File comment: Machined down top fin as so it could seat on cylinder head. I needed a longer cylinder for the longer stroke. A 1000cc.

File comment: Plugged the cylinder bolt holes and repositioned them. Than beveled off the fins to match a std xr750 cylinder. I still have to bore the holes for the pushrod tubes.

Unreal! Using the Evo cylinders is so trick! Plenty of meat on those to get the job done. Better than having to start out with a billet block! Great job Chris! These posts always get me to work harder, and the warmer weather helps as well. Lou

Not Original Parts! I will file a protest!

It is good to see the wheels grinding (turning) in your brain Chris.
