Hello shane,
If you read this website from Avon, you can seen what rim size fits with which tire size:

Hey, Shane:
I ran a 3.00 rear and 2.5 front on my bevel racer, but a 3.50 rear (illegal for P2 up here) would work fine as well. Although I haven't had any experience, I'd think that anything over 3.50 would slow down the steering response too much.
Seasons Greetings!

Hi Shane, Does your vintage race group specify max rim widths for the class you'd be in? I'm guessing 2.5 and 3.5 would be the limit, if there is one. For what its worth, on my '80 900ss street bike a couple years ago, I fit up a set of 18" Pantah 3-spoke Marvics in 2.5 and 3.5 widths, and thought they were the perfect size for that bike. Maybe I thought they were so good because they were so much lighter than the stock wheels and helped the suspension work better, but I also really liked the way it steered with Metzelers sized for those rims (also has 13.5" shocks). I finally decided to go back to the stock slugs because the Vermont/New England pavement is so rough, I was afraid that old magnesium might brake. Miss them though. Good luck with your project, bevels are fun - in their own weird way. Bill

I've got 2.5/3.5 Dymags on my 900SS[77] and had no problems when I was racing it. The only downside was finding suitable tires as 18" race rubber wasn't too easy to find when I last raced it in anger[10yrs. ago!]. Unless you shorten the wheelbase I would think wider tires/rims would amplify the already trucklike qualities inherent in the bevel chassis.I don't have any experience with the Avon race tires but I understand they are real good.It is a shame the old Goodyear 1996/1734 slicks aren't around anymore, they were tires you could get away with just about anything on!

Bill,
Did you get those Marvics from me about 4-5 years ago? I originally got those from Adamo years ago. From the WABAC machiine.
Geoff, in Oregon.

Hi Geoff, Yes it's me. I was wondering if that was you when I was looking at your F1 picture. Hated to take them off the bevel, but the pavement is rotten around here. Bruce Meyers now has them, they helped pay for rebuilding the Alazzurra engine that's in my TT. Your F1 looks like a really fun ride - very nice! Bill
