Hi folks, moving along chasing bits for this engine. By far this was the two hardest bits to track down. Xr rocker boxes. They are different from front to rear and more fronts than rears. These both started as fronts. The one on the left was nos in a factory box. The other had been lightened as they did back in the day. I matched them to look the same. Also had to weld up pushrod holes and reposition for front/ rear application. So hopefully I haven’t missed anything in the conversion of the rear, time will tell. Boucher.

Crikey! Every single part has to be modified. Truly custom. MikeV

Things to do on a wet cold day in the shed. Make a tacho drive. The original piece if you can find are really costly. So I started with a regular ironhead drive and machined to suit a flange the same dimensions as a original. I used a magneto sportster drive gear. Same result at 1/10 the price. More money for beer as they say. Boucher.

Hi Ducati people, another day spent in the shed. I played around with the std ironhead clutch basket to mimic a later xr 750 clutch basket. Early have single bearing later have two for better support I’d say. So hopefully this will work and save some currency.... Boucher.

Damned clever, and brave! I’ve got to remember your have-at-it attitude when I have a similar problem.

Last night I watched the brief videos on youtube of the 1986 Daytona race; will your engine puff smoke on the downshifts like Lucifer’s Hammer did?

Of course it will mike, it wouldn’t be right if it didn’t. There’s another one on YouTube with laguna seca BOTT. It’s a lot better. Boucher.

Hello boy racers, busy weekend modifying a ironhead oil pump. There’s two parts to the oil pump. Pressure and scavenge sides. Mine will only use pressure as I have a under engine oil pan, like a regular car. I blocked up some ports which won’t be used, made some spacers to replace scavenger gears and made a plate so it will run two seals on the drive shaft. The window in the drive shaft has got to do with crankcase pressure and oil feed? I think. It’s all new to me but luckily there are dots to line up. You can always join the dots. Boucher.

Hi all, continuing with the oil side, these engines had oil screens rather than filters. I’ve blocked up a few oil galleries and will reroute the oil up through a filter. That’s the plan. Boucher.

Always good to filter the oil!
Very nice work Chris, lots of re-engineering going on.
