Here's another pic from last week's racing with me and the Yamahas. The yellow TZ won this one, the LC was 2nd & the Duc 3rd. We were 2s a lap off the pace and 1s off my pb at this circuit. Main issue was f/e slides. I think I need a harder compound front but for next time I'll up the tyre pressures from 35 to 38 psi....will keep you posted
Regards
Phil

Phil,

Are those tyre pressures you mention taken hot? You're running Avon AM22 front? How is your front suspension, are you happy with it?

Great pics and we all appreciate your contributions!

Had a weekend's racing in the support class for the last round of the NZ SBK Championship. Brought the Pantah home in 12th place in the Post Classic TT, 5th in class. Still got my front end slide issues. Played around with tyre pressures. Upto 38psi cold, 41 hot but the front Avon AM26 is toast. One suggestion is change to a 110x80 with a 130x650 cantilever on the rear. Not so sure myself as I've tried a KR124 Dunlop on the front and it destroyed the handling. Anyone tried a 110/130 front/rear combo? pic below is me trying to stay ahead of a couple of pre '89 bikes TZ 250 and 350 RZ Yamahas...

Phil, try the 110 am22 and the am23 rear cantilever, you will love them!!
Those are the most popular for vintage bikes here in Canada.
They are a pricey but worth it.
Good luck
Paul

Tried the Avon tyres on standard rims yesterday.. AM22 110/80 on the front & AM23 130/650 on the rear and they've made a big difference. Set my fastest lap ever at Hampton Downs and feel there's more to come. Lot more grip, no front end slides and they feel better under heavy braking. On the flip side there's some patter on the front on the fast corners but the stability problems I suffered a few years ago when I last ran a wide front tyre (KR124 Dunlop) hasn't come back. In fact the bike is more stable at high speed which was a bit of a surprise.

I've got Ohlins rear shocks that I spent some time setting up a few years ago so no problems with the rear suspension. The front is standard 35mm Marazocchi but well past its use by date; they need a refresh. Got another set of forks ready to put on with Racetech Gold Valve Emulators but I'd have to make some adaptor plates for the brake calipers as the mounts are different. Will probably see out the season with the current forks and upgrade in the close season. Will keep you posted!
regards
Phil

In the photo above, the TZ is on the brakes and it looks like Phil hasn't even touched his !
Maybe he goes by the theory : don't touch the brakes cos they slow you down ?

Phil, what about one of Glynn's fork kits, then you can sell the other forks ?

Hi Philnz and congratulations for your performance!
Thanks for sharing your impression on the Avon am22/23. I'm impressed by the chance to put 130/65 on stock Pantah wheel.
Thanks again
Ciao
Filippo

I think I get off the brakes earlier than the Yamahas because I've got good engine braking into the corners, the 2 strokes have hardly any :D

I was going to send them to Glynn but I've broken a forkleg :( so the refurbed Paioli's with Racetech emulators are going on, now need to find a new RH forkleg so I've got a spare pair of forks..
