Sorry if I make you a question: You are the pilot in the picture?

Excuse me, I speak very little English, and I'm always the bad impression.

I wanted to know this, because in Tuscany, where I live in Italy, there is a pilot Laverda, very famous, Augusto Brettoni, he ran the 24 hours, and I would like to know please if you knew this pilot.

Excuse my terrible English.

Carlo.

Carlo,

I understand you loud and clear :-) Just a couple of pics of the time I joined my brother (sometimes on the rear of a comfertable 750 Sport Bevel) to the tracks in the period of the rise of the pantah's: 1982 to 1985. I am not the pilot at all, just a spectator Pilots race for :-)

I know Augusto's name and fame since a good friend of me is THE Laverda specialist Gijs van Dijk and another good friend of me now races his Tripple Laverda Classic Endurance racer (will upload a picture of that bike, you must have seen them racing in Imola). My brother used to Ride Laverda's so I often have been in the Laverda specialist shop just 30 minutes from where I live.

I am too young to have been there but my brothers visited Montjuic in 1982 and Endurace Racing to me always have been the greatest off all Motorcycle Race cattegories. In 1984 we visited Zeltweg and Spa to really enjoy the Factory TT1's of Walter Villa or the #7 Bike in the photo's that started as a privateer team (The French Police Team: Granie, Guishon & Vuilemin) but was awarded to race the factory bike's in Spa and other races. In Spa they finished 3rd which was amazing behind the RC30 Factory Honda and GSX Factory Suzuki! If you like more explanation who you actually see in the pictures let me know, my memory is rusty but still working.

Anyway, my teenage dream came true with owning a Santa Monica now :-)

Ciao, Ron

Ciao Ron, You are not rusty, indeed, you have been very kind to explain all these things.

I am very fascinated by this forum, but many times I try to understand what you speak, because I have to use a simultaneous translator, there are times that I feel get in the way of your wonderful discussions.

I am committed and I try to understand, but I have not studied much, I started working at 15 years old, and all that I know of motorcycle racing (very little) I have taught myself.

However you forum, you will not get rid of me that easily! HAHAHA!!!

Con amicizia. Carlo Leoncini.

Following pics are of the 1982 IMOLA 24 hour.
Only two or three of these have ever been scanned, so this is a first for most of them.
The van outside the pits gave a clue of who was keeping an eye on the spanners.
The Man with the suit and the red cap is Dr. T.
Riders : Mauro Ricci, Walter Cussigh and I think the third was Oscar LaFerla (not sure, lost the program).
Carlo, recognize the third pilot ?
Remember that autofocus and digital were notyet/tooexpensive/what??? :-)
If my memory didn't let me down, this was one of the early 750's (that's what Dr.T told me at that time).
It took pole against 1000cc endurance racers, so it sure wasn't a 600.

Mauro Ricci and Dr.T looking at work in progress.
Mauro going for a spin.
The front fork is different then on the other pics. Sadly I lost the negatives and can't remember in what order they were taken. I'll try to find any clues.

I can not distinguish the pilot, Walter Cussigh and I recognize it from your helmet, I have focused on the recovery of gas oil for the first picture, I've seen a lot of contentment that guy is not common, because it is sunken inward, and not smooth and rounded on the outside, is equal to my tt2!!

yuppiii!!!

Both sides of the main bike.
Live was good in those days : I only had a custom-made t-shirt with Scuderia NCR and was able to talk myself into the pits, and take pics without anyone asking questions (except me ;-)

The reserve-bike.
Sorry about the reflections on the bike. Nearly stomped Dr.T of his chair while trying to take a better position.

Top pic : the racebike, chain-side.
I'll try to find the pics where they take the wheel out.
The T-bike didn't have the rapid-wheel-changeparts.
