Houston, we have a problem. We tumbled this weekend that we have another problem with the swing-arm - the spindle that it hangs on. Although the Hypermotard spindle is an exact fit to the Verlicchi swing-arm (apart from length) as I originally reported. the mounting philosophies of the single sided Hypermotard and the early swing-arms are different. E.g. With the Hypermotard, the spindle does not swivel in relation to the crankcase :shock: because the swing-arm itself has needle rollers inside it which rotate around the stationary spindle. With early swing-arm the bearings are housed in the crankcase and the swing-arm clamps solidly to the spindle, - spindle rotates within the crankcase in unison with the arc of swing-arm.
Do I need to:
A. Split the cases :shock: and press in bearings?
B. Can I insert bearings into the swing-arm?
C. Perhaps I don't need to worry about it at all? :roll:
D. Other...? Any ideas folks?

File comment: Needle rollers are installed inside the swing-arm. Frame mounts directly onto the spindle. This is not the case with the dual sided swing-arm.

As you may recall, I had the frame sent out to someone (who I have never met on the recommendation of my mechanic) to have the rear subframe "spread" wider to accommodate the 900 swing-arm. Well, that didn't go exactly as planned :( .
I have the frame back now as you see it below - completely sans said rear subframe. I was expecting it back in one piece :shock: Especially after having forked out $650 to my mechanic for the job :(
I will meet with the engineer "personally" after Xmas and decide if he is the right bloke to do the job.

A pretty snug fit. The top cam box needed to be shaved as did the bar above it. THANKFULLY the shock absorber clears the rear of the cylinder head :P

Hi Mike,
Not sure how you do this but talk to Dave Kellet in Randell street Slacks Creek (Brisbane)
07 3290 2811. Dave Kellet Engineering.
DAVE does frame straightening, alterations and manufacture.

The rear triangle is gone from your frame,,,,,,,

Maybe send Dave some pictures and call him to get good advice before you go back to whoever did the cut on your frame? I would be concerned going back again.

Thanks guys, I think the main problem was lack of communication (none) between me and the engineer. I have the engineer's contact details now and can go direct without my mechanic being involved.

Any updates to this project?? I am deeply into a similar project myself. I'm particularly interested in what you have done to the rear subframe to get the swing arm to fit. Have you managed to get it to fit?

Sometimes the bleed'n obvious is difficult to see... the penny dropped when I participated in this post viewtopic.php?f=24&t=10361 and verified that there was another solution :idea: - I could use a swingarm that already does fit an F1 :!: (thanks Geoff, MikV and La Tige for your clarification and patience with me)
I now have the swingarm mentioned in the post - (sorry ducatifever :roll: but I did hold off a couple of days to give you a chance to put your money down) I will now get the rear subframe welded back into place as it was :oops:
