Hi,

We are serious of bringing an origional Santa Monica to the track next year. The plan is to be carefull and replace some origional goodies for replacements so when the bike will crash the damage will not ruin one of the 200 made. Don't talk me out of it, its out of respect for the previous owner, my cousin, who passed away recently and my personal wish to race again. The Santa Monica is within the family since new and has been on the track in the old days as track bike and not in competition, basically we won't go too much further then that now too.

Couple of questions:
- what (payable) 17" wheels can be swapped for the 16" ers
- where to find a (replica) single seatbase, tank & fiaring in Europe
- what more to think about in getting the SM a good track bike

I donated my Allazura 650 Engine as spare engine, furthermore we need to rebuild the engine that has been disassembled for more then 10 years. I also planned to get myself in shape by doing some trackdays this year, we target on the maiden outing on the Ducati Clubrace May 2013.

Since you won't sell it to me, I Will help you Ron.
It has to run! There are new 16" tires, but replacement wheels are also easy.

Hi all,

Whooah, its been long since I have been posting but much has changed. The Santa Monica is now in my ownership and I am allready a long way with preparing the rebuild later this winter. The target is to race demo in Francorchamps early July 2014.

I have bought a couple of Brembo 2 wheels (from a 620 Monster) and past months took the time to find all parts of the machine my cousin started to work on long ago. Where he passed away there is no one to ask questions but it look like the bike is complete and in relative good shape and complete, really complete till the origional bits and pieces like a helmet lock :-) The only puzzle is the engine, the gearbox outgoing axle was broken and I arranged long ago a replacement gearbox but I have to put some time in rebuild and shim it properly.

Apart from the Engine fitting the wheels and fitting the 320 mm disks in the front will take some machining. I contacted the Bitubo guy here in Holland about the shocks but the budget is tight and getting it riding again is the first priority, later I have plans with the damping and fitting a single seat on it too.

The cleanup of our workshop brought me some suprises: a full race fairing + a mould tool for endles copying this fairing, a track day exhoust (<105Dba), some nice NOS parts for the SM and special tools to work on it. Long ago I parted out a Cagiva Ally but kept the engine, seems this was some visionary thinking since its good to have some spares....

In a week I have 2 weeks leave and will start working on the Engine and make drawings / plans for the machining of brake parts and wheel spacers.

Actually loved riding that 650, Engine is the last spec pantah so really equall to thr F1 exept cilinders and heads...

Btw finding a replica F1 single seat is difficult, all TT1 seats out there in aftermarket but no street type F1's but in no hurry

Changed the Topic name. Started when the bike was intended to be bought by my brother and we together would built the SM to ride track days. Now I bought it I want to focus on making it riding on the road and some trackdays but still do some enhanchements like the 17" wheels not a full resto. That is something for 2024 :-)

Ian Gowanloch (Italspares) in Australia will build for you a replica F1 single seat.
