Battery registers 12 volts. Instrument lights dim when pushing starter button. No power at the starter motor. Any ideas? |

Hi Frank, I guess you found a new switch? What does the battery show under load. Many times they will show 12 volts and as soon as you load it the voltage drops dramatically. You need minimum 12 volts to crank. Is the battery old and what type? Tight and clean ground, tight and clean connections at the starter? Sorry if you've already checked. Lou |

I am with Lou, try a fresh battery. |

Lou, I didn't check it under load. Will do tomorrow. Recently added some distilled water to bring it to the proper level. Battery tender says it's charged. I did not yet find a new starter/kill switch. The push button mechanism seems pretty cheap and I've soldered the wiring once already. If I didn't care about originality, I suppose I could find alternatives. I have to believe somebody has one of these things laying around somewhere. Made cheaply by Verlicchi. |

Frank, you should really put acid in not water. Never trust a battery tender, I have learned this the hard way! I no longer use a battery tender I have switched to battery maintainers they do a much better job. Good luck Paul |

Water? Acid? Tenders? I say throw it away and get a Shorai lithium ion battery. MikeV |

They must be good because they ain't cheap. How do you keep them charged. My bike spends long intervals without being used. |

Same situation on my bikes. They all get out a few times per year. But the Shorai is always there at 13.3V, ready to go. If they need a bump then a 2amp charger does fine. Also use a tender now and then. They take abuse, and keep on ticking 7,8 years and more (9 years on the TT900SS). 2+ lbs, And no messy drips. MikeV |

I use the lithium batteries that are from WPS or FirePower (they are the same thing). They have a little button that reveals the battery status through 3 lights. I run total loss on my TT2 so I find this pretty useful. They also have all the cell balancing electronics inside the battery so any battery charger will work. When I had a Shorai it came with a complicated charger with a special plug that did the balancing and it was kind of a pain for me to use. Maybe Shorai have changed this? regards John |

I can see how Firepower might work. An alternative. But I have never used a total loss system. Tell us, how much time do you get before you lose spark? Do you take more than one battery? Or are they sitting around being charged by a generator? Next to the tire warmers? Can we see your TT? Thanks, MikeV |
