hello all

got an f1 on the bench in need of new tyres, and i see bridgestone do a bt46 in 110/90-16 as well as 120/80-16.

has anyone tried the narrower front? just curious if it'd turn better.

I would stick with the 120/60 as it is as close to a 17 diameter as you can get.

Conventional wisdom suggests that narrower tires on the same width rim will make the tire flatter in profile. For a front tire, that would probably make it steer slower (which could be nice for the F1 at low speeds) and more difficult to change direction—not a good thing for the F1 with a 16" wheel, methinks. From what I understand, one reason for the 16" front wheel was to make the bike easier to turn at high speeds.

As Paul noted, the diameter will be off, also affecting handling.

Oh, and the smaller diameter will make the (chuckling) speedometer read inaccurately (laughing now).

the 110/90 is spec'd at being about 5mm taller than the 120/80, and it's recommended for a 2.5" wheel, which the bike has.

whereas the 120/80 is recommended for a 2.75" wheel. not sure if the little extra it'll be pinched would make any difference to its profile or effective width fitted.
