hello all

i did search, but f1, 17 and wheels are all too generic words for it to search.

a customer is asking about putting 17" wheels into his f1, which i think is an 86 . has anyone done this?

Brad, yes no problem!
4.5/ 5 rear sizes are best.

the owner said he'd "heard" you could use 90's oem wheels from the monster and ss series. i've never tried anything like that, so was curious to know if it is that easy?

is there off the shelf race style wheels still available for them? google search didn't show anything obvious.

There are some aftermarket wheels, depends on $$$.
JB Magtan (campy replicas)forged magnesium.they are are made for the f1 and include spacers ready to go.
I believe you can still get Marvics, Tz wheels, can’t see why you can make a set of monster wheels work, you would have to do a caliper plate of some sort for the front, to account for larger discs.

found the catalogue, bottom two options for wheels.

http://www.jb-power.co.jp/download/cata ... log_HR.pdf

without having done it before, "make it fit" is a bit open ended when i'm on the clock. would be fun to try, but that usually ends up costing me money.

Agreed it is a time consuming job, at a shop rate it would be expensive.

Eye watering expensive, but they list the F1 as a "plug and play" fit. http://www.bikehps.com

I think a member in Canada put the new Marvics on a few (10?) years ago, and there was something not quite right in fitting the rear cush drive/hub. It is actually the 1990s style setup, I believe. And sometimes they send the 1990s (wrong) front wheel with the 64/80mm hub/bolt measurements, not the correct 80/101mm, no matter what the order is for.

Problem with the 90s front street wheels (monsters, SS, 888, 916) is that the common measurement were 64/80mm - 105mm wide - for 320mm discs with 7.5mm (center of disc) offsets, for a total of only 120mm center of the discs, and using four-puck calipers. The F1 hubs are 88mm wide, and the discs are a total of 136-138mm wide on center, for 280-300mm discs. I think that is why so many end up swapping the entire front end and everything attached. See the Pantah hot rods built by Paul and Boucher in the past. The rear is for only a 245mm disc. I have no clue if the cush/chain would line up with the stock F1 front sprocket. Highly unlikely.

Finally, for street use, the problem of getting a speedo drive between the 40mm FI forks and wider modern wheels is a problem. Someone posted that several years ago. And if mounted on the left side it will turn the F1 dash speedo backwards. I posted that in the past.

Never tried this, and never wanted to.

Geoff Baker's F1 with 90s Marchesini and modern front, and 80s Marvic rear.

thanks mike. i imagined the front disc placement would be an issue. possibly someone who was handy at home told the owner you could fit the 90's wheels. one's definition of "straight in" varies with their skill level, patience and equipment.

the marvics are around the expected price. but only 5.50 rear, which is a bit wide i think.

Our F3 has a (standard) Monster front and a (Streamline old-style) Marvic 4.5 rear with (can't remember nor check right now) cushdrive.
We did find a set of Streamline Marvic wheels 3.5-4.5/17" in Germany a few weeks ago but since traveling was difficult, we had to let them go.
Now looking at a set of Suzuki GSXF600 wheels of the 90's, not TOO large front and rear. And with a bit of work, those S marks can be grinded off.
