Hello, All

New to this list.

Strongly considering the purchase of a 1988 F1 - I have owned at least one Ally and many belt drive ( 750 Sport,888, Monsters, etc. ) Ducatis. I have ridden a few F1 at Grattan Raceway in the US many years ago. Zero street use of an F1 The point of those few sentences is to give a baseline of my knowledge and experience. I typically do my own maintenance.

Wondering what items I need to cover during my telephone examination of the bike.

dealer major service including belt service in the last two months by a dealer that is known to me.
Low miles - 6,500
never raced or crashed
all stock\

Mostly concerned about ignition pick ups/wiring
Seals - forks, hoses, etc.

What else should I know about ?

Thanks
Kevin

Just buy it because you really want to ride it as it was meant to be ridden. That way you'll happily lavish all the proper care on it, what ever it takes.

6500 miles? Recently serviced. Take it home, ride, and find out what happens. Not likely anything big will happen; you will always find something small to do. MikeV

Get it and enjoy. In my experience of buying used bikes, you allways take a chance.Service history etc in my opinion, which few will agree with, doesn,t mean a great lot. What is service on a bike.?Change of oil ,lube the chain, check the plugs, are the tyres ok,lights ,horn, working.Has it been flogged to an inch of its life? Trust the seller? Look it over,if it looks right and floats your boat, then snap her up.You,ll have plenty of time to make her right, because once bought, you wont want to let her go.They are just so addictive. You either like or you don't.But they are simple and all the better for it.A proper machine.

If everything you've been told is true, and you want an F1, then go for it. It sounds like the kind of deal that I'd be looking for.
Post a picture if you can. If there's anything amiss, someone on the forum will pick it out.

The main thing you need to be concerned with is doing the regular maintenance: lubing cables, adjusting valves, changing cam belts and all fluids at recommended intervals. I have over 38,000 kilometers on the bike. The only real issue I have had has been the regulator/rectifier from Ducati. I had two failures. I finally purchased an FH020AA Mossfit Kit from Roadster Cycle.com I have had no further problems.

Well I will have to wait for the next F1. I must have missed the deal by about 3 days - Sat at the dealer for about 2 months before I came across the bike and now too late.

Keep me in mind if a F1 comes up for sale

Thanks
