Hi,
Got thru the carbs and gas tank, the motor turns over and looks good so far. The valves are running between .004 and .006 and the closers nil to .002. What are these suppose to be? and are these close enough to try and see if the motor will run.

Thanx,
Clay

Those specs are in the ball park, I think the opener spec on most all of the cams is .004", looser on the exhaust valves OK due to higher heat especially the vert. cyl. Can you turn the shim on the nil closers? If so you should be good.

Thanx, I will double check that one. I am going to put new belts on too.....I hear thats a good time to spin the cams to ensure no binding.

If you try with the dots lined up the cam on the horiz. cyl will stop as the valves hit the piston. Also note the intake on the vert. will be open with the marks lined up.

If the pistons are down a ways, belts off, you can spin cams by hand. Its good to check open and close valve shim clearance while rotating the cam back and forth in each valve closed area. The clearance varies and you don't want tight spots on closer shims. When I was racing mine it didn't take long to figure out the wire valve keepers don't hold up and I got the MBP ones. I highly recommend them.

Beautiful bike you got. I need to bring mine out of retirement.
