On a Laguna Seca that was modified by ProItalia, and now for sale in the US. Just what does that line from the oil cooler line going to the back of the engine do? Yes, some other have posted something similar quite a while back. MikeV

Hi Mike,

I believe they where oiling the transmission with it. Some of the early motors had issues with getting oil to the transmission shafts. Years ago I had seen a small metal oil line from the factory on either a Montjuic or Laguna Seca that ran under the motor down the right-hand side to the transmission. Later motors had slightly different oiling and no more problems.

Thanks Gary. That is a LS engine; seems strange they would suddenly have a problem. Just seems odd that it would help going in that low. Maybe they added a jet or something inside the case, pointed at the gears? Just for curiosity, I will look inside a case or two to see how that might help. MikeV

Considering the gearbox of the Pantah originated from a paralleltwin : they surely had some problems (but that was with engaging first gear) and was fixed with the gearbox of the grey 500's.
Age may be playing a part but I don't see any line going into the case.
In front low over the cases, fixed with yellow straps is what I think is the fuel line.
The braided line high up seems to be the clutchline.
Don't see anything else.
Ducati had some problems with the oiling on the bevels gearbox, because the secondary shaft was ABOVE the primary and seemed to run dry(ish).
NCR added another oilreturnline to the side just over the sprocket, oiling in from the inside.

Hay Mikey I ask the same question a while back. viewtopic.php?f=24&t=10251
We need to take one apart to see how it works?

Hello Ducadini. Start at the lower oil line at the front, with an extra silver washer showing on both sides of a banjo fitting, and follow the very skinny tube going under the clutch cover to the banjo bolt fitting in one of the 10mm holes tapped at the back. Unless there is a fitting inside aimed up at the gears it seems useless. Used to add a tapped fitting and copper tube aimed at the front cams gear on Fiat 600-850 engines, otherwise they would get destroyed during a race. Similar situation?

I knew there was another posting somewhere, but could not find it. Can we tear down something of your's?

MikeV

PS: My posting is not news; it is "olds".
