The tip of my clutch pushrod decided to depart from the shaft.

The good news is that the shaft is not seized in its tube. The bad news is that I cannot get the remaining shaft out. I tried a magnet, crazy glue, and right now a 4mm bolt with some JB Weld on its tip is hopefully bonding to the end of the shaft. I cannot use a screw extractor because the piece in the tube rotates.

If the JB Weld trick does not work, can anyone offer tips (no pun intended) on how to extract it?

not tested and maybe it won´t work, but is it possible to start the engine, tilt the bike over and see if the vibration and movement will let the clutch pin move itself outwards?

That might be the next step. JB Weld did not stick, and I am afraid there is sufficient gluey residue inside to make the shaft slightly stuck. Not much, but perhaps enough to make a difficult situation difficulter.

Does anyone know if the pin can be pushed out through the opposite end?

I don't think that hole goes all the way through the crank. The fit of that pin is probably a few thou. of an inch shy from being an interference fit. So you're more than likely fighting a bit of a suction effect. Try some steel wool or small wire brush or what ever you have to clean the exit path spotless. Squirt a little wd40 or light oil in there and try using a shop vac to suck it out. If you have a something to reduce to diameter of the hose ie funnel on the end it will help concentrate the vacuum.

As the Brit's say, you are in a bit of a pickle old man. Or something like that ( Pat will correct me ).

Suggestions can get silly about now, so, if it still rattles around, how about trying to make the rod smaller by freezing it? See if you can find some "wart freeze" at a drug store to spray on it, and then try the magnet again. Clearance is actually pretty loose. I hope it hasn't mushroomed inside the hole; things that rattled around like this tend to deform over time.

This is one of those situations where it seemed as if I tried every option the wrong way at the wrong time. Hm. Sounds like racing.

I ended up using brute force. Not a hammer, but a propane torch. Pressure in the area behind the shaft built up, forcing the errant piece out. A little WD-40 helped the process.

Step Two

Does anyone have one of these (expletive deleted) pieces they would be willing to sell me?

It is a standard 750 F1 item as far as I can tell. Surprisingly, I can find no images of it online, so I do not know for certain.

Head: 19.5mm diameter
Lip: 3mm thick
Inner diameter: 16mm
Shaft: appx. 8mm thick (maybe 7.75-ish mm)
Overall length including head: 31mm

Alternately, I could do with a replacement pushrod and clutch center if it fits.

I am still wondering why it broke.

Can you show us what the matching pressure plate looks like? This believe this should have been attached to that if it is a dry clutch.

Here it is.

Yes, that was once a single unit, and yours has detached. The clutch will work with just the plate, altough you will get a "shudder" now and then. And the post has been rattling around for a while. MikeV
