In my opinion, the largest rear wheel that can go inside the Verlicchi aluminium swingarm of the 750F1 (Montjuich, Santa Monica, etc.) is 4,5 inches wide.

The new Marvic Streamline rear wheel is 5,5 inches wide (2 wider sizes are available). I asked Marvic Italy if they would produce a 4,5 inches rear wheel, but I have received no reply yet.

I will wait a few more days. But it looks like I will finally use Monster 620 or 695 wheels (3,5 inches at front, 4,5 inches at rear) to be able to mount radial racing compound tires on my F1 (120/60-17 or 120/70-17 at front and 160/60-17 at rear).

Yes I will have to change the wheel bearings in order to use my 20mm shaft at front and 17mm shaft at rear.

One 750F1 has appeared on EBay Yesterday. It is in Italy. This bike has the old Marvic wheels that I would like to get for my bike.

Hello Gilles. The 5.5 wide Marvic fits easily inside the Verlicchi F1 aluminum swingarm. But a 180/55 street/sport tire will just barely clear the chain with the proper offset sprocket; a 170/60 is not a problem at all, 160/60 should be a breeze. Geoff has the 180/55 Pirelli Corsa slick trackday/race tire on his 5.5 Marvic/750 Sport Verlicchi setup, and it clears just fine; same-sized race tires are usually smaller because of the thin side walls. But, fitting that inside a stock CM swingarm may not be possible [easily]; and I think that is what Gene is still dealing with right now. MikeV

What do you think of installing a 160/60-17 tire on a 5,5 inches wheel ?

I always ran a 160/60x17 on the "Yellow Bike" for racing and had good luck. Steve didn't like the looks of a 16/60x17 on the bike so he put 180/55x17 on it. Back in the days of the later TZ250s that is what they ran on 5.5" rims.

Gene. Geoff's last question is a good one --- what is the cush drive like? It may not matter as long as the dimensions are same as the earlier Marvic. MikeV

I got a reply from Yoyodyneti concerning the new Marvic 3 spokes Streamline wheels in magnesium.

About the rear wheel, he told me : ``I know we can do a 5.0. I think and 4.5 may be do able ``

He also sent me different drawings of hubs so I can determine exactly which Marvic/Akront I presently have on my F1.

Maybe I can now hope to get the right wheels that I need.

Yoyodyneti seems to be working in some way with Marvic.

Marvic can make the Streamlines on a 4.5" rim - the first set they sent me was made that way. It's not standard but it can be done. The cush drive is the new style. I sent them several pictures from the 80's of the old style drive on Marvic wheels but my understanding is that the old system is not available.

FWIW, my J B Power Magtan 17" mag wheel set has a 5.00" rear and 160/60's work just fine on it. They are the 5-spoke Campagnolo style, but would be a drop in alteration on your F1. The Dymag TT3 3-spoke is available in a 4.50" x 17" rear. Not sure how much work would be needed to mount them on a F1. I believe Mr. Crankyroller has been in touch with Dymag.

Your bike has the nicest shoes out there Bill. I remember those being for sale. Neat that Dymag is back; they sure produce a wide range of sizes --- even 16-inch! Also have the H-beam design.

More than one person has said that a 160/60-17 is big enough, so a 170/60 is probably good too. I suspect the dimensions for the Pirelli Corsa Superbike 180/55-17 race slick is about the same as a 170/60 street tire.
