Yes, exactly. Mine is the Cagiva font without the elefont....sorry, couldn't resist. The black chrome on my exhaust is extremely pitted. I'll have to check more closely to see if it has the non-compliance stamp on it as on the one in your photos.

Hey, tidy looking bike!

The 1987 bike finally benefitted with most of the upgraded engine features incorporated in the Montjuich, Laguna Seca and Santamonica - Kokusan ignition, stronger cases etc. Just add Montjuich camshaft and 40mm carbs with your Verlicchi exhaust and you will have 95 "Ducati" horse power! ;)

Mike,

Thank you for the kind words. This particular F1 has a very special place in my heart as it has been "in family" of a small group of friends with whom I've been riding since the early 90s. A friend of mine bought it back in 1994 when we were all riding 900SSs and 907s. I remember being fascinated with it then, but never really "getting it." I went on to upgrade from my 900SS to the 916 which I did track days on, and then raced with AFM for years, and which I still own today. By then friend 1 had sold it to friend 2. Friend 2 was a dear and loved person and presided over my marriage to my wife (now of nearly 15 years). He was both a great man and a good man (and they're not always qualities which are combined) and he died from cancer a few years ago. I am fortunate enough to be the custodian of his F1, and his 851. The F1 remains my favorite machine in the stable, for reasons that only F1 owners will understand. Underpowered by even 851 standards, with unimpressive brakes, and some (at times) funky handling characteristics the steering feedback, lightness, narrowness, and completely razor edged focus, along with the glorious sound that comes out of that 2-1 exhaust is simply fantastic.

This example is also unrestored, as you can see, and has a fantastic patina. I intend to never restore her, as I'm a big fan of "preservation." For more on that, check this out http://www.gearheadexchange.net/blog/20 ... servation/

Thanks again for sharing the knowledge and interest. It's hard sometimes, there so few of these bikes and of us around, that there is not as much interaction here as I would like.

your bike is a beaut,dont touch her,nothing worse than an old bike REstored,use her and take on the ageing process with pride. My Montjuich will be kept clean,but restored,never,it will age with me. I regret overdoing my tt2 a couple of years ago,couldnt wait to get a few marks on her and cherish the stories behind them. I personally love the old MVtriples,but to see a replica next to an original with its dullened paint,cracks here and there,and battle scars,NO comparison.Look after her well and enjoy.

Hey Guys.
Whilst i was selling spares at Gowy's, and having a need to replace my Verlicchi reverse megaphone (the race pipe)
I dug up quite a few Conti reverse mega pipes which he had in stock in Sydney. These pipes where obviously made for the F1's
and sold like hotcakes and Ian had none left. Thats not to say (due to the fact Ian still had to unpack 3 containers full
of stock) he won't find some. I'm running the conti on my Laguna Seca and did the job both functionally and asthetically.
Like Mike says Italspares is your best bet.
