Salut Carlo,
Don't be shy you can teach me a lot of things, I am not very good for fixing motorcycle.
Carburators ?? The two mysterious pieces connect to the motor !!
Oh yeah, I have this nice sound when I release the accelarator POC POC and some time POC POC POC.
I am pretty sure that I have a problem with the carburators.
I need help for that. Keihin FCR 41mm
Back fire when I release gas.
When the motor is cold if I open the gas more than 1/4 the motor stop. After a few minutes it's ok.
At the speed of 140km/150 km if I turn it wide open I have nice Beuuuh ! not enough gas or too much ??
I have the original valves on the tank, I have tried two new valves with tubing connect directly to the carburators.
Same problems.
I have some scientific numbers for you,
Main jet = 150
Main air jet = 200
Needle # OCELV
Needle setting: second step
Slow jet = 52
Mixture screw: 1 3/4 turn
Slow air screw: 3/4 turn
Float height: 9 mm
The motror have oversize piston and bigger valves.
Carl

Ciao CARL, if you tell me that Dell'Orto carburetors, I can have some references, but with that kind of carbs I do not have references.

That said, I can assure you that the problem is not the oil cooler, but a lean fuel mixture.

You do not have to use your bike, you risk a puncture piston.

You consider that my main jets (dellorto) I have a 165.

I ask for help to the friends of the forum, who homing carburetors Carl, please speak !!!

I would make an attempt with the jets of up to 10 points higher.

Following control the timing of the engine, and check the clearance between the valves and rockers opening.

However, I think it's the carburetor.

Check the exhaust pipes that does not leak from the exhaust gases tested.

I hope that was helpful. Excuse my English !! ;)

Thank you Carlo
I am not riding anymore, my next ride is going to be in 2015. It's already winter here the first snow is coming tomorrow.
I have all the winter to fix it or find somebody to fix it. I guess I have to buy a few size of jets and do some tuning next spring.
I am going to install the new oil cooler I have it anyway.

Thank you Greg for the link about the Keihin tuning.

If somebody have Keihin FCR please let me know your jetting.
Thank's again
Carl

Il radiatore dell'olio è sempre conveniente da montare sulla moto, un buon raffreddamento è sempre ben fatto!!! Ciao!!

[quote="Palmer"]Cranky, don't have exact temps, but with the Yellow Bike when engine development got it up past 85 SAE rwhp temperature started becoming an issue. I went through a period of oil issues which we related to temperature and I have always had issues with wrist pins and the forged pistons available. In the early days we were modifying the cases for oil squirting on the bottom of the pistons from the crank mains. The later cases (1999 and newer) already have oilers for the pistons which helps some. Not sure if the oil squirters or just the added horsepower is what caused the added heat.

Interesting subject. I also experienced the piston pin problem with added HP/RPM and yes above 85HP. That point requires added cooling modification like the oil squirters putting more heat in the oil (plus the added windage). The standard design uses slots on the sides of the rods to direct oil toward the pistons. The Carillo rods don't come with these slots which I think starve the pins. I put these slots in if not using the squiters. Pankl relieves the whole side of the rod to make sure oil is directed toward the piston. Picture shows Carillo, stock and Pankl.

The Carillo rods in my 900SS have positive oiling to the piston pin by way of a hole bored up the center of the rod beam fed by the big end. Been running the same rods for 20!! years and have never had a problem with pins or rod bearings. It was an option offered by Carillo when I ordered them and I think the hole was done with electro discharge machining before the heat treat and shot peening.
