Below is a Picture of the new and old layshaft.
mark of the simmerring/shaft seal is in the same
area as end of spline. This will not be oil thigh in any way.
suggestions?

Hi there, have some trouble with the gearbox of my F1B, MY 86, Motor-no. *7500853* That's the gear box with the fine spline layshaft, but not the main shaft like the montjuich and later models have. (starting with *7501495*) Have to change the layshaft, because the sprocket chipped the splined shaft. Right now I cannot the see the reason why, maybe tolerances, but that's a sideshow right now. Ordered a new layshaft (p/n:067 016 115) from Ian Gowanloch. Got it original packed and it doesn't fit, bummer! The spline section is too long, the simmerring/shaft seal reaches over the splines. Questions: Did our Italian friends changed the design during production and didn't change the p/n? What part number is correct for my motor number? What other layshaft/whole gearbox may fit? Summer is passing, and i have to ride motorcycles with 8 Valves, Need some assistance, horst |

Horst, Can you attach some pictures of the shafts, maybe side by side. I guess I'm not aware of the shafts being different in the early "B" models. Palmer |

Maybe you got the wrong part? It has happened. But, I've never heard of a gear set with both fine and coarse splines on the different shaft. MikeV |

 Horst,I think that will be ok. Remember, the oil seal is only a lip with an internal spring. So, the length of the splines will not make it leak. I would replace the oil seal anyway as a matter of course. The body of the seal fits into the case and is press fitted. You'll be fine. It won't leak. I won't say trust me, but trust me anyway. You may have other leaks before that does. And, if it does, it'll lubricate the front sprocket and chain at the same time! Cheers, Steve |

the marking for the oil seal looks very close to the end of the splines,but looks as though it will still make a seal. When the sprocket is fitted,very little oil will escape past the fit on the splines. I would think it ok to fit. |

If You're not sure about the oil-seal, fit a 2Z bearing with the inner seal removed. That bearing is has dust-covers, so a little oil can keep the outer oil-seal lubricated without splashing it on sprocket/chain/tire/road  ciao ducadini |

Also remember there are two parts to the oil seal, the inner lip that keeps the oil in, and the out lip that keeps dirt/dust out. I would install the shaft an see where the inner and outer lips ride on the shaft. From the photo it looks like the marking from the old seal is very close to the area where the splines are on the new shaft, but are they over it. Measure the marking on the old shaft with some accurate calipers and see where the two lips of the seal ride. If the inner lip is past the splined area, then you could use the shaft, as the oil will not leak out. If the inner lip rides over the splined area, then I would look for another shaft. |
