I have a set of 3 ohm (green) dyna coils. Any issues running these with Bosch boxes? I'd hate to burn up an ignition box from too much current. Bike is now track only use.

Is there any practical advantage to these over the motoplat coils?

Thanks

Geoff

Have a pair on my '80 900ss bevel. They always work.

That's funny, I'm taking them off a bevel. But they had some 1.0 ohm resistors in line and I was wondering if I could live without the extra ohm.

Let me state first that I'm not an electrician, but I just wired in the green 3.0 Dyna coils in as a straight replacement to work with the existing Bosch boxes, which I assume are the same as the Pantah Bosch boxes. I do normally run it with high beam on and about half the time with a set of heated grips on (Vermont), if that means anything. I believe Dyna suggests the black 5.0 coils for street bikes, but if yours is track only I'll guess you're fine. I used the green ones because I had a set, and they work great.

I agree with everyone. The 3 ohm coils produce a terrific spark. Have used on 3 bikes with the Bosch boxes. All good. Lou

For the guys that do not know, our buddy Steve Munro sends me VIM cleaner from Canada since we can't get it here in the States, and yes it does work! This bike needed none! It was put away in this condition 20 years ago. Almost all the components look new to me. The period Technomagnesio wheels 17 inch, swing arm, 4 pot Brembos, billet Brembo first generation radial masters, flatslide Mikunis, Dyna coils, nicely machined clutch housing and cover. A very nice machine. I have replaced a few things that had just dried out with age. Will change the belts tomorrow and bleed the brakes and clutch, oil and filter. Lube up the cylinders and hand spin the motor. Cranky would recommend a leak down test. Borrow Ralphs starting rollers and make some noise! It belonged to a West coast racer and was his back up bike. He sadly was killed on his primary bike. I think this bike was built by Trevor Dunn in California, he is pretty well known and I think works at Santa Barbara Ducati. I have yet to get all the history of the bike but will post some more pictures and info as I get it. Lou

I have the green 3 ooooohm Dynas on my F1, and I believe they are the recommended versions to use. When I can find them cheap I buy them for other projects. Practical advantage it that they have the bigger spark (30,000 volts, versus something reportedly much less from the Motoplats. Yet, my F1 does not like having the plug gap increased much above the .024 thou recommended. And amazing how many TTs still have the Motoplats in place.

Good grief Lou---you found another treasure? That looks really cool! Interesting how you casually slip these gems into other topics, never a with grand opening all there own.

Yes, nice segue Lou ;) - subtly introducing a picture of your latest bike as part of a chat about ignition coils :D

We are all  with envy how you keep finding these gems!

Cheers,
