Hello Phil,
I found exactly what you said about the 47 x 17 bearing being 2mm wider and there isn't enough meat on 696 rims to machine them 2mm deeper.
The two flanged bushes were the easiest option and didn't add any more weight than the wider bearings would have if I could have used them.
I did look at boring the swing arm to 25mm but that was way too much work on the '95 swingarm.

ps, the only stuff I had was I forgot that 696's have an electronic speedo and the '95 had a mechanical one and drive,,, again there isn't enough meat on the front hub to fit the drive. So now for the moment it's revs = speed in my head. :oops:

LR203NPPU is 17 x 47 x 12. they have a very thick outer. you'll need to make a spacer to suit, as there possibly won't be a correct 17mm spacer. I've done this recently on a customer's new to them m750 that has been customised previously, one of the mods being a 5.5" previously 25mm axle rear wheel with these bearings. the spacer was a 17mm one with a few washers welded to the end of it to make it almost wide enough.

Graeme, are the 696 wheels lighter than say a mid 90's ss or monster 3 spoke?

I had to use the '95 sprocket carrier as the 696 item was too wide, so the rear wheel ended up about 300grams less than the SS wheel.
The front wheel is around 700 grams lighter with the 696 discs, but you can't fit the speedo drive to the 696 wheel.

Obviously magnesium or carbon wheels are a lot lighter but this is a road bike and there are some crap roads here, perhaps magnesium would be ok but I'd rather not find out.

Hi Phil,
I think you may be right to question those steel distance spacers. They are carryover parts from the bevel era rear axle assembly to tubular swingarm design. Saving weight anywhere on the basic F1 models obviously never entered the factory's mind.

Yeah, well, ... Best laid plans and all.
Seems the inside dimension of a steel F1 swingarm at the axle is about 200mm.
The width of Sport Classic wheel at the axle is 240mm .
The 180 tire fits though (barely)
I can loose some size, but 40mm is kinda hard to get to fit. 240mm is what the 1990 Sport was, all of the SS and Monster and ST wheels. I'm assuming its also the width of the later model F1's with the aluminum swing arm as the wheels seem to slide right into the 1990 Sport Verlicchi swing arms without modification. (or as best I can tell from the posts)

Now for plan B. Stay tuned. Anyone have a suggestion for a wire spoke wheel that might fit? (any make or model) I think a 150 or 160 tire and a 4.5" rim is where I'll be headed.
