My new to me F1 came with uninstalled Malossi filter cages. I do not believe they are for this bike. They just do not fit on either carb. They hit the frame up front, and hit the inner fender in the rear. Does anyone have a photo or more info on the proper filters?I really dont want to ride it with no filters!

You didn't mention the year of the bike in question, but the 1985 F1 did not come with air filters & the later bikes were fitted with these malossi units ( I lightened the pictures up so that they were a little clearer). Are these what you have, or do you have a later Malossi unit?

Hello and thanks for the photos. My bike is an 86 F1B. Those look to be the same as the pair I have. But as I said, they just do not fit? The clamp and cage body are hard plastic with no flex at all.

Does your bike still have the original PHF36 Dellorto carbs fitted? And out of curiosity, do the filters look new or do they look they may have been fitted at some stage? Clinton

Hi Clinton, she still has the 36mm carbies and the filters are definitely not new. They have most certainly been fitted to something at some point. The inside of the inner rear fender is a bit marred up from someone mounting a filter I presume. Also, the frame rail behind the horizontal cylinders Carb is heavily scratched from the same. Looks as though things have been a tight fit for a while.

The filters were a bit of an afterthought I believe, since the original '85 didn't have them, and they are definitely a snug fit. The filter mounts should have an OD of around 52mm, with the number 066791700 moulded into the mount (just above the clamp).

I don't like to run with no filters either. I found some nice UNI filters work nicely. They aren't original but they work great. They are foam with a rubber clamp to the carbs. They have a flexible spring style inner portion so they bend to fit the tight space of the F1. My carbs are Mikuni TM41 flatslides but UNI makes several different sizes. Rich
