The last ever factory F2 that we built for Tony Rutter had A Suzuki front fork. During the first practice for the 1985 Isle of Man F2 race Rutter said that it did not handle or steer to well. The spring less hydraulic/air rear unit was replaced with a conventional unit. The handling was still no better. Ron Williams who had helped so much with the 1981 F2 Pantah chassis, and was employed by HRC Honda advised us, after bouncing up and down on the forks, what needed doing to make them work on the notorious IOM bumps So one night the Ducati engineers were taken out and wined and dined ! We striped the forks and did what Ron had told us to do. The rest is history TR won the F2 race at a record speed. Ducati eventually sussed what I had done, .......they shouted at me !!, I often wonder if Honda HRC ever realized how much help Ron gave to us and Ducati !

When I got my TT it had RG500 forks on it, and I never really cared for them. They were very heavy. Gave them to Lou. Bill |

I think the answer to the different shifters is Marco Luccinelli prefered the shifter on the right. As do I.I've converted my 77 900SS, F1 and belt 900 to RH shift. Having started racing on a Norton I don't want to have to think about shifting too much. So if anyone has any of Luccinellis old bikes I would be happy to ride them for you! Bill |

One 750 F1 with RHS gear change and the Lucchinelli bike without. Though that does not prove anything... as I have found photos of other Lucky bikes that do have RHS gear change. Pat would you like to enlighten us with your unique insight? You were at Imola that rainy November week back in 1984 when these iconic 750 F1 images were taken?
