Whilst restoring my F1 I'm already looking toward the next project & it got me thinking. What bike do you think will become the next green frame as far as collectability goes? Will it be the '88 851 Tricoloure perhaps, or maybe the SD or MHR? Could make for an interesting thread.

Certainly as far as the 750 F1 series is concerned, the limited edition Montjuich of 1986 (with alloy fuel tank, Marvic/Akront composite wheels) is the Green Frame of that generation of Ducati. But then again... if you consider the collect-ability of the original "sandcast" Honda CB750 KO of 1969, then perhaps the original 1985 750 F1 (also with alloy fuel tank) of which there were only 624 examples made, may well become as desirable because it represents being both the first F1 and also Taglioni's last design.

My sad observation to date however show that there is still only a small amount of interest in the F1 models compared to the Mike Hailwood Replicas which in 1985 both cost AU$10,000 new. The MHR consistently fetches much more than an F1

Interesting topic,
It will be interesting what is considered "the next green frame" in different countries?
Perhaps the original 916 of '94? They are already fetching big dollars in Australia.
Mille?
Any of the R bikes, or SPS's?

While I understand we all love our Ducati's for various reasons, I personally hope another model doesn't fall down the "Green Frame" rabbit hole into collectability crazy land, never to be seen again doing what Taglioni or Bordi designed them for.

Thank you again Carlo for taking us on just a plain old ride on your Montjuich.

Part of me wants it to be any of the ones I own, but the other part of me doesn't want to be afraid to ride them because they're worth too much.

Maybe I should hope for one of mine when I'm too old to fold myself onto them - so in about 5 years

There does seem to be an active market in 851/888 SP models with a few fakes starting to appear - so maybe it's them.

I am with Pantah Good on this. Have had a chance to buy some some of the special F1s here in the US, and cannot bring myself to do it --- because I would put them on the road. Right now even super-nice Pantahs are going up in price, and I do not want a "dining room" bike. MikeV

Certainly in terms of sale price, the factory TT1s have set the high bar for the 80s machines. I don't think I'm out of line expecting them to break the $100k barrier soon.

And the '85, Monty, Laguna Seca and Santa Monica are pulling bigger bucks every year as "investment bikes".

But, if I can't beat the snot out of it, I simply don't want it. So I've been focusing on specials that I can thrash to my hearts content - although the last two F1s I've sold have commanded pretty big money, so I guess there's a case for that approach as well.

I think it's safe to say that most of the active board members here are motivated by passion, not financial return..

If you want rare (66), skyrocketing price, and soooooooo desirable, the Supermono is hard to beat. Sadly, I doubt I'll ever see one racing again, unless Mrs. Jerry Wood has a change of heart.

All of these bikes are only on loan to us, and we are only caretakers for the next generation.
I don't think it matters what they are worth as long as they aren't hidden away.
They were intended to be used and enjoyed, the next generation can have the pleasure of rebuilding them again.

I have a 23 year old son who just rebuilt his first bike, a first model 500 Pantah. It gets ridden every day.
He eyes my TT2 Rep, and 450's (which will be his one day, but not yet) when I can't kick them anymore.)
Not Green Frame items but still worth $ and going up every year.
They get used regularly and don't get put away in cotton wool where no one can see or hear them.
They do get looked after and cared for.

I have a mate in north Queensland who has a real green frame as his every day transport to work and back.
He bought it new, and has the patina that only a used every day bike can have after 38 years. (he has similar patina)
