I've put this off for a couple years now but it's time to say "goodbye" to the old girl and send her to a place where she will get ridden. Of the Ducatis in my small collection this is sadly the one which I should part with. I don't ride on the street anymore, and I have a good track bike. Even if I were to occasionally risk one of my others to a track day, the F1 would not be that motorcycle. So it goes.
This motorcycle has been in my "family" since 1994. It belonged to a good friend who bought it used in that year, and who owned it for about 7 years before selling it to another dear friend who owned it until he passed away from cancer in 2011. I bought it from his widow. During those years it was always treated with the love and respect it deserves, and I have been proud to have been its custodian.
She has 43xxx km on on her (believed to be accurate) odometer and is largely original. At one point the ignition modules were replaced. She is currently running a reproduction Conti exhaust with a new 2 into 1 header. I have the original Verlicchi exhaust but the baffle's welds broke loose and I removed and boxed it for future repair. It has a center stand installed but I also have a side stand for it.
The countershaft, drive sprocket and chain were replaced within the past 2500 miles.
She's largely original, missing only a few items including the oil breather box that goes in the right side of the frame under the seat, and a few small items. I have the turn signals but one or two are not in great shape and so I removed them.
The bodywork has great patina, with the crazing and cracks associated with the era. Relief holes were cut in the lower where the headers had cracked and browned the fiberglass many years ago.
Photos of the motorcycle can be seen on my Flickr page here:
