BTW-the engine number should be a decent indicator of build date. According to Falloon "toward the end of 1986 the final batch of 300 F1s was constructed, beginning at engine number 7501505. So my engine number of 7501154 would indicate a build date of sometime in mid to late 1986.

Also, there was a thread somewhere about the US models having the additional VIN plate welded on them as the factory had not implemented a 17 digit VIN. There is an additional number stamped on my steering head tube of DGM 51787 OM. Anyone else have a similar stamping?

Mine is similar, when I bought the bike and then I noticed that, I figured the bike was chopped up or stolen or something. I was relieved to find out otherwise. I don't see how any department of motor vehicles would think that the frame number is legitimate when you look at such a cobbed up thing. If they inspected it they would probably confiscate the bike as bad xample of someone trying to alter the frame number.

So,
Looking at TJ numbers and Mikes numbers.....

Mikes data plate (first picture) says 7501639 and build date of 4-87. Frame is 751498? If so, these seem to make sense for a very late bike....my engine #7501527 and frame is 750799 a little earlier

TJ is engine #7501154 and frame are #750764 earlier than mine. In all 3 cases the engines and frame S/N on each bike seems to sequence somewhat in unison.

Nice collection of photos Mike. I have a similar one.

My F1 has an early B engine, but it is an '87 according to my insurance company, and it has a metal strip welded to the headstock. I know the first buyer, so that is the way it came. MikeV

OK I'm super confused....to whom does the photo of the Giugiaro (early lettering) F1 belong? I can't read the VIN on it but it certainly wasn't built in 87 unless the tank was repainted with early style logos.

Hi!

Only one year late... :)

Model 1985A= the first 300 produced. NO steering lock in the frame, aluminum tank witj screw on cap, fixed brake rotors all around, red 38 mm front fork, wet clutch, Pantah sized valves and low compression pistons, Nippon Denso meters, gold wheels. Low model screen!
Model 1985B= late batch before update, floatings discs, Newton tank cap, dry clutch, still same slow engine and the rest. High model sceeen!

I bough a new model - 85A, framenumber 133 and enginenumber 175, converted into a TT1 replica race bike sadly enough. Collected some parts, could build up two bikes. Sold the racer after it was retired and being ignored for some years. Started renovating the street bike 15 years ago, still not ready...

My first post and it is about a bike I recently sold. Twenty two years I bought a 750F1 in Reno Nv .The bike was on consignment at Dyna Reno.What I find interesting about the bike are the frame and engine numbers. First sold in Houston in 1988 to an American Airlines pilot and titled as a 1988 750 F1.The pilot retired after a few years ownership and I acquired it. The frame number is Zdm1AA3LXJB751852.The engine number is7502258. The bike started life as a 2 seater.Currently it has a single seat 1986 fairing,2 into 1 loud Verlichi pipe.The front fender is original two piece as on the Montjuic,and it has a Kokusan ignition.Currently it has an aluminum swingarm and 17 in wheels fro a mid 90s 750SS. I really liked that bike and put many miles on it. Once I could no longer wad myself up to ride it I sold it.At 75 I still ride but I no longer ride what I used to.I am making this post because it seems my late bike is one of the last ones made.And yes the numbers were on a welded plate on the frame and riveted plate on the engine.By the way the bike went back to Texas.

Hey Tom,
Thanx for posting.......interesting, my bike came from the same shop. Your paper really confuses me on the engine number. Most of the bikes seem to only have numeric engine numbers. Does your bike have a riveted on plate for the engine number in lieu of a stamping on the case??

Thats a lot of paper work for the warranty, and then it says their isnt one. We could probably make an Italian joke here.....but I will resist :lol:

Yes the plate is riveted to the case over the place where the number would be stamped.
