Hi Flattop, could you turn the primary gear over to the other side? I haven't been in my shop, but I will be tomorrow. I do remember two 'spacers' in the primary. I'm sorry I'm not sure but will check tomorrow. Lou

Hi Flattop, those two bushings/spacers are necessary. They are for mounting the clutch basket to the shaft. Now it is possible that the larger one isn't correct, because it should have an o-ring so it seals. Looking at your pictures, the basket seems to have a seal. I will include a few pictures. There is also a spacer between the two bearings in the primary gear. Lou

The longer of the two spacers fits the lip seal in the basket. So it probably does the same job as the O-ring on yours. The thing missing on both is the sealing of the spacer ID like the internal O-ring used on F1 dry clutch. Is there some strategic use of sealer in play when assembling the clutch?

Hi Flattop, the fit is really tight and I've not seen a seal of any kind. It is 'loaded' so the precise fit is probably how it works. If you have a sloppy fit I would make a new bush. I will take a look at the clutch basket tomorrow, I don't remember a seal like yours has. Lou

Apparently things were changed now and then. Here is a photo of steel hubs with and without the large O ring. And with the small O ring outside the tall bush. The small flat washer is a stock part, I believe, that fits below that aluminum center hub to keep it from grounding on rotating steel parts below that.



Got these in a mish-mash box of assorted engine parts sold on ebay last year. Unfortunately, it did not come with the NCR side cover. And a stock dry-clutch cover does not work --- easily.

Hi Mike, you are correct, everything changes all the time! I have never seen a basket with a spring seal. All the clutches I've seen have the bushing. You can see the difference in the ID. Lou

It's good to know that there are two versions of this clutch. I was getting worried I had a non OEM modified version. So we know that the O.D. of the spacer is sealed with an O-ring or lip seal, but what keeps the oil from migrating between the main shaft and I.D. of the spacer? Does the F1 spacer not have an internal O-ring to perform that task?
