Thanks Dick!

Juha Käki was one of the two original owners of the Finnish TT1, but for the 1988 season he sold his part and bought a Laguna Seca. First year it was pretty standard but then transferred into a really nice and fast ”TT-lookalike”. Cool dude as well! :)

Evolution!

Do you remember the production TT1 in Sweden that was crashed, and then finally sold by the museum in Vegas? I mentioned that the engine was put in Harris frame and then itself replaced by a 900. I found two pictures of it, these two I actually received as Christmas cards from Benny Aneröd. Unfortunately I dont know which years it was but probably very early 90:s.

Almost fell out from the ”active topics” list... :)

Also the NCR that I posted as the first bike went through a transformation. Dan Gustafsson who bought it in 1986 raced it as it was for a few seasons, then bought a Spondon chassi. After another few years the original 750 engine was replaced by a 900 and after the BEARS racing class finally was cancelled in the second half of the 90:s he sold the bike off to Germany. The complete original NCR bike was sold in parts to Torbjörn Lindgren (who renovated the Aneröd TT1) who in turn sold it to his brother. He built the bike up again and raced it a couple of times.

So, last entry on this odyssey is my own bike.

I fell instantly in love with th F1 after seeing the very first test ride in German Motorrad early 1985. The took some really nice photos in the narrow streets of Bologna, with laundry hanging between the houses. (I didnt keep a copy of the magazine, if anyone of you have it scanned I would be grateful to get it!) I went to my closest Ducati deale who also happened to be the importer, and the last one of the first delivery of five bikes was not sold so I traded in my Yamaha FJ1100 and then had to wait for three months or so before I got it. Ooh, those were great days! :)

That year the tested with belt pulleys made of plastic, not the best of ideas... I had two breakdowns thanks to melted wheels but otherwise it worked fine. Then already after one year I started to rebuild it into a racer, step by step.

Thanx for that history!!! That is a great picture of you with the Harley in the background too :-) So that brings us up through the old history back in the day, what have you been doing in recent times.

Story continues...

We really tried to make a proper TT replica out of the F1. The rear and lower part of the frame was cut and modified accordingly. A homemade swingarm in aluminum was made, but eventually it died the crack-death. :) Heads were ported by Sports Motorcycles, a light flywheel and an external ignition system (on the main cambelt axle) from Moto Thome in Germany made the engine quick revving and agile.

For the 1991 season (I think) the front wheel was replaced by a 17 inch, and the Battle of the Twins series had sponsorship by Yokohama who at the time had pretty good modern radial slick tyres. The only supplier that had a rear 18 inch 145mm wide that fitted my 4 inch rear rims perfect. For 1992 a new, non-typical Ducati paint scheme was the only change. For 1993 I planned to race two classes, BoTT with the F1 and Sound of Singles with my Gilera Piuma that arrived from Italy early in the year. It worked out so and so... The Gilera broke the conrod at the first test and the Ducati was crashed, however not by me, at the last race (why does that always happen?) and was retired.

I won one race with it and it never failed me technically!

At the time I was amazed by that bike, oh well I'm still amazed by that bike:)
