Hi Flattop, the amazing thing is that I think all these motorcycles still exsist! The first bike is Dale Quarterley's bike and is owned by Steve (loudbike) Munro, the second bike I think is in the Ducati Museo, the third bike is Adamo's bevel and lives in NJ, the fourth bike is John Williams on Dale Newtons bike which will be at the Bonhams auction in Las Vegas next week (case you guys want a shot at buying it), the 5th bike is my Harris Ducati ridden by Dr.Kieffer, the 6th bike if I'm not mistaken is Malcom Tunstall on the DB1R ( I think this bike is still in the USA), I will leave the last bike to the guys with better vision than I have. Hey Lou... When you say that this was my Harris, were you there for this race telling the good Doctor not to wad your bike up? |

I guess you could say the good doctor (God rest his soul, it's been a year) wasn't one to wad up bikes much. I've thought about this. Doc was a privateer racer. He love racing, but I would think his first love was being an orthopedic surgeon. His hands were his life. He helped many people. Crashing would not have been a good thing (not that it ever is). My Team Leoni bike has been crashed, a lot. Jimmy was a racer first and foremost. The only thing that mattered was winning at all costs. He crashed a lot and he paid the ultimate price for his desire to win. Lou

reversed forks on the second pic. wonder what the idea was there? is it running 16/17 or 16/18 wheels? they look like wide ones with radials. when did the 17 come into common use? |

Hi Brad, never understood the reversed forks at this point in time. I think it was trial and error as opposed to science. Both bikes were running Suzuki RGB500 forks. The ones on the Adamo bike were supposedly tweaked by the Cagiva factory. The Adamo bike is running 16 inch EPM's front and rear as she still has today. Big bias ply tires if you could believe it. The top picture with Jimmy on the bike is a photo I took (of a photo) in Reno's home garage. Lou

Maybe repositioning that weight would nudge the bikes center of gravity forward?? |

Hey Lou... I've seen the RGB fork before, and always wondered about, how tying the brake lines into the fork affected dampening? Regards... Flattop

Hey Flattop, I'm no expert but applying the brakes causes the forks to dive, the brake fluid pressure introduced into the fork slows down the diving force through valving in the fork. This era in motorcycle technology was so interesting. Engineering was all over the map. Antidive forks hydraulic and mechanical, bias ply tires giving way to radials, 16 to 18 inch wheels. This Cagiva has the reversed caliper, a Marvic in the front, a Beymag in the rear. Canteliever or rising rate rear suspensions, twin or single shocks with reservoirs. Wheels went from 2.5 inches to 6 inches wide in the span of a few years. Another reason why I love this period in time and the Ducati TT.
