Thanks for posting this Carlo. I passed the link for the film clip on to Steve Wynne as I am sure he would be interested to see it again. He asked the TV company for a copy of the broadcast after the race so they sent him a copy of this film I the post. However, this piece of film and many other personal belongings were stolen from his house whilst being away at the TT some years later. The legendary 78 Senior TT was only a couple of days previous to this Post TT meeting at Mallory park. The original engine in Hailwood's bike at the 78 Senior TT unluckily broke the crankshaft bevel gear just as it crossed the finish line, but luckily recorded a tremendous event in Ducati's history. Steve tells me at Mallory Park he spent the whole race stood at the pit wall praying every lap for it to last the duration as the spare engine now fitted had already been well used in the previous week at the 78TT, and in much the same state as the one that broke. Miracles do happen, and you have made an old man very happy. |
