I found this paper showing the 1989 results of AMA Pro-Twins National Championship. Looks like Honda won both class but Ducati took 2nd and 3rd in both classes. Interesting stuff. Hope it is readable. It also shows Superbike and 250GP.

GP Class
1st Randy Renfrow - Commonwealth Honda RS750 (dirt-tracker engine)
2nd Dale Quarterley - FBF Ducati 851 (or 888?)
3rd Jimmy Adama - Reno Leoni Ducati 851 (or 888?)

Modified Production
1st Kevin Erion - Honda RC31 Hawk (the year after he won on a 750-F1)
2nd Craig Shambaugh - Ducati 750-F1
3rd Frank Shockley - Ducati 750-F1 (or TT?)

Thanks Rich, very readable and very interesting. The AMA sure did have a good thing going for a while. I'll bet forum members here are probably very familiar with a lot of the Ducati's that the riders on those lists used to acquire those points, and it would be interesting to see how many. Number 33 on the Pro-Twins GP list, Art Chambers, was the original purchaser of my Harris TT (s/n HPD69) when at Sports Racing, although I don't know for sure if he used it in a 1989 Pro-Twins race. And number 3 on that list, James Adamo, was riding the 851 I'm currently rebuilding (or at least what's left of it). Number 39 on the Modified Div. list, Steve Aspland (Rising Sun Cycles owner and LRRS race director), whom I don't think is on this forum so I'll put this in for him, re-acquired his F1 and is only a rear wheel away from racing it again. And I have to mention number 41 on the Modified Div. list, Stan Friduss. He has been at every AHRMA round we've ever been to, tuning Moto Guzzi's for Andrew Cowell, one of which probably evolved (at least in spirit anyway) from the bike he rode in 1989.

Ok, now we know who you are...lurking in the shadows. I wonder how many others are lurking around this forum. Or the bikes ridden in those glory days before the AMA dropped the class.

At the 4th symposium in NH we are looking forward to seeing some of these bikes, after some polishing or even as-is, and meet their owners.

Here's another interesting bit: Purse for the Daytona Pro-Twins race in 1989.

Most riders stayed all Bike Week; entering in the CCS races the weekend before as practice and then the Pro-Twins race on the following Friday. It was an expensive week!

$3185 for 1st in GP and $1715 for 1st in Modified. And this was the biggest purse of the year ($17,500 total.)

Heck, they could almost pay for their entry, gas, hotel and bar bill if they won (or not).
