Any technical disscussion beyond the historical facts? Combustion chambers and port centrelines would be one example but that Bob Brown TT was said to be innovative in a number of ways – and it was quick.

Boucher, what's your take on the CR article?

With thanks,

F McD

Easter this year at the Broadford Bike Bonanza.

It would be very interesting to know what Bob Brown did to the bike to make it more competitive than the Factory 851 Superbike... But I guess that will remain a secret.

The chassis is a "later" model Verlicchi - identified by the "loop" over the vertical head. (Source of that information is Bob Brown ;) )

Also note that the bike appears to not have a hydraulic clutch.

The picture orientation corrects itself after you click on them... it seems to be an Android feature.

Thought this may help a bit. I remember watching Kevin Magee racing the original at Oran Park in 84. The first picture i took then was him on the bike. It had a early verlicchi frame

I remember watching what is possibly the greatest David and Goliath motorcycle battle in history at the Winton Superbike race around that same time - it was Magee versus Phillis on the Mick Hone 1100cc Suzuki! (a 680cc Ducati vs a 1100cc Suzuki in Australia's premier superbike class!) On the tight Winton circuit the lead would swap as the Suzuki would pull away down each straight only to be caught up with and passed again under braking and through the corners by the light weight and nimble Ducati of Magee, this repeated lap after lap whipping the crowd into a frenzy and the crowds roared as the two bikes flashed by each lap. From the penultimate corner of the penultimate lap exiting neck and neck for the finish line, Magee knowing that the Ducati could not out pace the superior horsepower of the Suzuki, pulled a 100 metre wheelie to the finish line! No one saw the Suzuki finish. Jaws were dropped by the phenomenal exhibition, all and sundry in awe at what an extraordinary race they had just witnessed. Wow - I am still blown away 30 years later!

Great rider and equally great bike!

Factory backed Phillis won the Australian Superbike Championship in 1981, '82, '83, '84, '85 and 1988. So truly a David and Goliath battle.

I'm with Paul! Thanks so much to all who posted this great reading. And the photos sure help --- look at that "skewed" piston top (twisted valve cutouts) near the end of one article. MikeV
