Hello...
I was wondering what the difference is between an F05 gold line caliper and a black stock one. Was there ever a "shaved" version like the 08?

One time Steve Munro told me that the Goldlines were machined better during manufacturing. The black one are high production items.

He was always surprised that Fran could ourbrake him using those tiny 05s Goldlines compared to the larger calipers he was using. Of course, there are other variables at work there.

But, at one time, in the 80s, many of the real race bikes used the Goldlines, so something about them must have been better.

PS: The 08s Goldlines are trimmed down some compared to the black versions, but not the 05s.

I was under the impression that the gold line calipers came standard with anodized alloy pistons whereas the standard black variety had steel pistons.

That seems right to me. Never seeen steel ones in a goldline, and I remember some rust on the Guzzi Lemans black 08s. Now the anodized are the replacement part. MikeV

So... a little shaving, aluminum pistons, titanium everything else and I should have a decent 05 rear caliper to match a set of 08 dual bleed calipers I'm planning on doing the same thing too?

I would strongly suggest you leave that kind of thing to Brembo. I believe the "factory shaved" calipers were for thin rear race rotors on race bikes. Stock new pads may not fit in without also being thinned down, and the outer piston dirt seals may not fit on anymore either. The 1975 900ss came with "shaved" F08's, but those bikes were meant to race. Aluminum pistons and titanium everything else, fine. Personally, I wouldn't touch a non factory modified caliper with a ten foot pole.

Hi , can you anodise the brembo 05 calipers from black to gold. Has anyone tried it? And what's the process. Boucher.
