I saw this post by Vicki Smith on her ducati.net list, and have attached this cut and paste of it. I'm putting it in this "Messenger In Red" thread because I'll bet a buck Phil Shilling wrote "Messenger", although he is not credited anywhere as author, and also because Mark Homchick was noted as Messenger's test rider. Phil Shilling is a long time hero of mine for several reasons, but mainly it's because of how this one "Cycle" article has influenced the way I think of what I like in a motorcycle ever since. I still clearly remember my first reading it. Bill Here's Vicki's post: Some of you know Phil Schilling as .5 of the Cook Neilson - Phil Schilling Ducati brilliance that is now part of motorcycling and Ducati history. But there are a whole lot of us that know him as a special beyond compare friend whose light is daily being dimmed by a long time fight with Parkinson's. One of those "Friends of Phil" has come up with about the only way we can make Phil feel a little bit better and he sent me this: "I normally would not post something like this, but I feel it is for a worthy cause that affects a man I have eternal respect for, admiration of, owe unending gratitude to, and love as two friends can love each other. Phil Schilling, who I know all of you are familiar with, is one of millions of people living with Parkinson's Disease. He has given so much to me, and to all who have read his work, that I want to give back to him in a meaningful way with the goal to ultimately help him and millions of people like him, who are living with the same disease. To help raise funding for research for a cure for Parkinson's, I am riding in the Tour de Fox Wine Country Edition bicycle event this August. If you have the means, please click below to reach my page to make your donation With deep humility, and vast appreciation of everyone who has shared their appreciation of the body of work that is Cycle magazine, thank you. Mark Homchik" To donate: http://www2.michaeljfox.org/site/TR/Athletic/TeamFox?px=2191763&pg=personal&fr_id=1820 Thanks, Vicki |

Sad news. Just read a post by Cook Neilson on the ducati.net list that Phil Schilling lost his battle with Parkinson's early this morning. Bill |
