Can someone tell me what this thing that looks like a clutch drum attached to outside of the front sprocket is? What does it do? Looks like it is from your country Carlo.

Wow.....never seen that......its a belt drive Buell disguised to look like a Ducati.

Go out on a limb......belt drive starter motor??? Actually....I cant tell if that is a pulley?? or outboard countershaft support?

Hi, si parravano is a team from Frosinone, they are very imaginative mechanics, I must say that I have no idea what that contraption could be, I think I see an external guided bearing, I think there is a gearbox shaft protruding outside in anomalous way, and with the crankcase the shaft is guided externally by a bearing, at least I think.

Two things come to mind. If that contraption is period correct it could very well be an early attempt at a slipper clutch of sorts. On an even bigger shot in the dark, it may be a devise to change the final gearing through the use of some kind of centrifugal clutch, similar to a snowmobile. ??????

By coincidence, I saw this on the Ducati.ms forum:

Danomar: I will try to be gentle. That is a bevel drive, and the clutch is on the left side, with the sprockets and chain on the right side. Opposite of the Pantahs. So that is a bevel dry clutch in that photo. All good.

Carlo: You should know better.

I think it is a coffee bean grinder, for one of those very thick Italian blends.
