Hello folks. Does anyone know if someone still makes a holding tool for early pulleys with the six oblong slots, like the one in the photo? All the tools on-line are the two pin type and I've already damaged one pulley trying to use one of those.. Thanks a lot. Cheers. Rob

Hi Rob,
I'm not sure if there was a tool for the plastic pulleys. If you are lucky, you may loosen the nut with the belts on and an blocked motor. Personally, I would replace them with a full metal pulley.

Thanks Wolf. I've just realized what a soft material they are after further inspection. I'll try what you suggest and will look out for some metal replacements. Thanks for the info. Cheers.

I have learned these should be loosesened or removed while still on the engine. Also, the Ducati techs have no problem using an impact wrench (air compressor) for removal. You can use the old belt to hold it steady, and maybe use a strap wrench if the head is off the engine. It is much harder if they are already removed. Good luck.

Thanks Mike. I'd half thought of using the belt strap wrench technique. I'll let you know how I get on in Cheers. Rob

Thank you for this tread.
Maybe the same system:
"You can use the old belt to hold it steady, and maybe use a strap wrench if the head is off the engine",
could be used also for these metal Pantah pulley.
But do you know if exists a removal tool also for these kind of belt pulley?
Ciao Filippo

.or if you have a standard belt pulley removal tool (the one with two pins), you can remove the plastic teeth from plastic belt pulley and set two hole with a drill to match with the standard belt pulley removal tool.
I believe with a precise job you can also use the plastic pulley again..not mine

...for the later pulley I designed a tool - the tool (on the left hand side of the photo) from ebay to open the nut did not fit...

Cheers

Hi guys, an old post but I think I finally found the tool for the phenolic, plastic pulleys. Thought I would share the pictures. I'll share some more pictures when I receive the tool. Lou
