....I couldn't stand the tension any longer and started to dismantle the 600cc motor. The culprit was not a roller bearing but a dowel pin holding together the clutch basket. The casing is damaged at the output shaft bearing and there is a loss of stiffening ribs - I already prepared a new casing from with new bearings to swap all the internals of the damaged motor.

Cheers Wolf

Cal - no one has won -

...now I'm in the rebuild process of the motor. Why am I so slow? Hopefully the upcoming spring will accelarate this. I've found a good motor casing om a 350, changed the bearings, shimmed the gearbox and crankshaft and all the other shafts. I also checked the timing of the cam shafts. I've put the equal opening of the valves during overlap one degree in advance to TDC - any comments on that?

I also lightend the clutch basket and found it out of balance by 10 gramms, which I eliminated by boring additional holes...

Cheers

Wolf

Mystery solved! Thanks for letting us know. Another thing to watch for. New engine looks good.

Hey Wolf,

Did You use the internals of the 350 engine or fitted everything of the old one ?

Some 350's had a different primary and the 5th gear is also a bit shorter geared then bigger engines.

Good work on the rest of the engine :D

ciao

...indeed - I've tried a comparable approach - actually I was not happy. The motor did not run as intended. The timing of the second cylinder was not right and I returned to the two pick-up set up. Funny thing is, the identical ignition set-up works perfectly in the Alazzurra of a friend and co-author of our ignition development- never found out why...

Cheers
