Hello...
Does a NCR clutch require the longer main shaft like the Alazzurra and F1 dry clutch?
The motor in question is an originally wet clutch 600TL.
Thank you...

Well, I was hoping someone who had one of these would chime in. I do not have one. Seems all the photos of these I have seen show they used the very first, very small, Pantah 500, aluminum hub and clutch basket with three bolts holding the plate. These were wet clutches, so they were the short shafts. But I have also wondered where they got dry plates to use with the NCR kit.

Now I will be corrected.

Sorry for not responding, but yes, Mike you are correct, most of that stuff in the NCR dry clutch was early pantah wet clutch stuff, short shaft. Lou

Thanks Mike...
Thanks Lou...
It never occurred to me that the stacked height of all the bits would determine the shaft length.
But here's the curve ball. The clutch was mounted to a 650 Alazzurra wet clutch motor (short shaft)
using a drum retaining nut that has been modified to carry an oil lip seal. I originally thought it made up for the difference
in shaft length, hence the question. Now I see the wet clutch shafts are drilled all the way through and the dry clutch ones aren't. So...did the NCR bikes
have special cranks or were they plugged in some manner?

The original NCR clutch used the aluminium small bodied drum and std wet plates running dry. Steve tells me they had an rather annoying habit of exploding when pushed hard in race use.

The later steel bodied (larger) clutch had the longer shaft. The centre hole forms a guide for the pusher pin to allow the outer pressure plate to lift square under operation and compensates for any small differences between the 6 springs.

Cranks were all the same. Unrelated ?

Glyn.

Hey Sports...
My mistake. I meant to say main shafts not crank shafts. So if the stock short main shafts are hollow, how did they keep the oil from leaking out?

You may have to resort to opening the engine, pulling out that shaft, and sealing the left side with a dowel or setscrew or some magic potent you mix up (can you say JB Weld?). MikeV
