Hi all,

I live in Europe, live and love Ducati's since ever and am now starting to plan a build of a TT1.

Of course I am exploding with questions, after some nights reading through the interweb I have been able to answer most of them by myself, but some still persist:

As regulations for classic races here are, I cannot use a frame with rocker arm suspension, so in my understanding I would have to build an "early" TT1 with Cantilever rear suspension.

What puzzles me: Are there any differences at all between a TT2 frame and such an early TT1?

If yes, which ones?

Are there any known experiences with the various frame builders?

I want a properly made, original frame of course and I am also reluctant to pay more than necessary. But don't get me wrong, I pay what I am asked for, I only try to avoid the most expensive frame kit when there are ones of similar quality for less bucks.

I also would want to choose between an original Pantah 600 engine and one from a 1992 750 SS. Are the mounting points identical?
(besides the rear carb of course...) Will both fit in the same frame?

Help is really appreciated as the start of the project will be the frame and swingarm of course and I REALLY want to miss out on expensive errors here.

Hi Raoul,

Welcome to the Forum!

When Ducati moved from the class of 600cc TT2 to building 750cc TT1 they simply put a larger capacity engine into one of the existing TT2 chassis. So for your purposes there is no difference.

I have heard no complaints via the forum of issues with any make of reproduction TT chassis.

Both engines will fit into most of the reproduction frames. Some of the manufacturers make minor changes to the frames depending on what engine you plan to use.

The early engines 600cc, 750 F1 etc have different diameter swingarm pivot holes to the later engines. So and early swingarm may not fit the crankcases of a later model engine and vice versa.

Don't forget DM frames, in Italy. Depending on where you are, they may be close.

I would suggest buying and reading Ian Fallon's book titled Ducati Belt-Drive Two-Valve Twins. It contains too much detail on some things, and nothing on others (like swing arm pins and engine case sizes), but it is a good starter if you are behind on the history of these bikes.

PS: if you can get a 1992 750 SS engine, the last year with the Pantah-sized big swingarm pin, that would be the best way to go. Much stronger engine, and bored for 88mm pistons.

Hi all,

thanks for the info!

Sydney is too costly to send to here sadly :-(

The Redfox grinta seems to be, according to pics I found; strange made on the upper bars, the welded them together instead of bending them.

I am in contact with Twowheelclassics and Taraky Racing in Italy which are both quite near and seem to build fine (and original)

Is the frame identical and the swing arm the only (exchangeable) difference when using different engine - swingarm sizes?

Thanks for the info on the swingarm bolt size in the engine case, didn't knew about the exact date yet.

Hi Raoul.
I bought a TT2 frame fom Redfox and it is a DM Talai fabrication.
Taraky racing is probably too I suspect.
Jan @ Redfox is good to deal with. Mixture of 28/25mm tube diameters. All tubes are "bent" - as you say.

I can provide the Genuine Verlicchi/Ducati Swingarm delivered to your door for less than you can buy a reproduction/copy/fake from Two Wheel Classics. Else I will match the price of any other copy. ;)
