I'm ready to check the cam timing my bike. Have the degree wheel and the dial indicator, just need some ideas of how to mate the plunger to the valve ,shim cap, cam????

Place the plunger on the opener. All you need to know is when it begins and stops to move.

When I've done this in the past I have put a cut off feeler gauge (4thou) between rocker and opening shim. Then I would rest plunger on remaining feeler gauge and let it go back and forth, up and down. Does that make sense? Boucher.

I got it Boucher. Sort of like a short diving board sticking out. I usually try the balancing act on top of the opening arm, but that is a slippery perch! Your method also removes the "slop" from the valve gap. MikeV

I found this on a Paso site. The .004 shim is present but a washer was added to the plunger and looks like it is used to catch the top edge of the closing shim? Is this an accurate method?
