Hi you all,

What do you think of Super Pantah 's proposition of a Special left side engine cover to mount the alternator and ignition in external position :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carter-Alternat ... 33a8c4967a

This special cover is offered by Sauro Collini who lives in Badia a Ruoti (25 minutes away from Siena) in Italy.

If I understand correctly, beside reducing engine weight, this special engine cover serves to eliminate the flywheel on a race tuned engine.

That looks pretty trick.

I have seen these on lots of bikes over the years what other benefits do they offer apart from weight?

http://superpantah.blogspot.it/2014/08/ ... antah.html

Special engine cover, designed to mount the alternator and ignition system in external position on Ducati Pantah engines and derivatives in displacements from 350 to 750.
Requires the use of a ignition system for power-driven by the distribution (example: Dyna, Microclassicignitions, Elektronik-Sachse etc..).
They can be used alternators type racing or original.
Savings in overall weight approximately 3.5kg.

The sale includes the Sand-cast crankcase (aluminum AlSi7Mg0.3 with heat treatment), 3 seals, bushing for the gear selector, the protective cover for the alternator and the extension to the camshaft to operate the ignition (39NiCr4 hardened steel).

Attention! It is not a complete conversion kit, based on power choice must be made a mounting plate and other minor adjustments may be required depending on which is mounted to the engine. Therefore it is necessary a good familiarity with Ducati engines and timing settings.

The assembly provides for the elimination of the outer part of the flywheel and eventual balancing of the flywheel hub itself, you can keep the electric starter gear without changes to goodwill and distribution. On race engines designed specifically you can shorten the drive shaft according to the alternator chosen.

The system has been tested for a long time on the road with engines Pantah 750 and 900 Supersport with Dyna ignition DS4-1.

All items are handcrafted (one of the 4 kit built), then it is a private sale without any warranty.

I wonder if, as a side benefit, it would be possible to install the clutch slave cylinder on the left side ? By doing this, maybe one could install a slipper clutch on 1982-1987 Pantah engine ?
Some Factory 750F1 racers in 1985 had a clutch actuated by a slave cylinder on the left side.

Those of you who have the book : Ducati The untold story by Alan Cathcart can have a look at pages 73 and 76.
