Can anyone tell me the correct way to paint Magnesium. [Forks/yokes] There is a bit of pitting on alloy. I've read some bad  things that can happen to the alloy if not done proper. Thanks Boucher.

Hello, this is a link to a good procedure. When dealing with magnesium I find it best to use procedures used for aircraft.
Hope this helps and good luck with your project...Bob

I had been wondering what solution Carlo used for these triple clamps and forks. They look really great!

Carlo, what paint did you use?

Ciao, my painter used a synthetic primer, the important thing is blasted with glass beads, and bring the aluminum material perfectly clean and without alterations of white bloom or oxidation, although we see little holes, we must not be afraid, the What is important is that there are no impurities inside the holes, before it is carried out with primer paint.

I ask my coater type of primer, I do not remember the exact type, I have always painted with this type of primer, I never had to go back to work already done, this thing is also true for magnesium rims .

Even the rims magnesium, are often corroded on the inside, I've always sandblasted with glass beads, then I make sure the stability and safety of the structure of the rim, I do this work themselves, using a piece of wood or a small hammer, checking all the spokes of the wheel, hitting small strokes on it, I listen to the notes of each spoke of the wheel, the notes shall be all alike, and the sound must be very reassuring, a low note in the midst of many high notes, the rim of magnesium becomes material exposure.

I hope that my concept was understandable.

Later I will tell you the type of primer I use.

I forgot to give effect to the rim or the most senior to the fork, I use a semi transparent, it is much less shiny and already artificially aged.

Ciao dall'Italia, Carlo.
