I have a few questions. What is the difference between a tt2 fairing and a tt1 fairing? Did the Tt 1 use the same 35 mm magnesium forks as the tt2 ? What is the correct colour for the wheels, black or gold? Thanks Boucher.

Hi Boucher, yes the fairings are different. The two fairings are separated in different places (upper/lower) , the TT1 fairing is wider by the handlebars, a few other things, subtle, but different. Some TT1's used 35mm forks, some 38mm, 40mm and 41.7. The early TT2's had 180/185mm spacing at the triple clamps, the TT1's usually had 195mm spacing. I was talking to Cranky about this at our pizza party. I think bikes that ran the wider 16 inch wheels had the 195mm triple clamps. Wider hubs meant the need for more space between the fork legs. I have some Marvics that have had the hub shoulders where the rotors sit milled down to clear the narrow fork spacing, these wheels came from NCR. Most TT2's have gold Campy wheels. The black Campy wheels seem to show up on 'kitted' tt2's to TT1 spec. Gold Marvics on TT1's, but those black wheels look good. Everything I wrote is just from observing stuff, so just my opinion not fact. Hope this helps. Lou

Then I will add: when you look at the fairings from the side the TT2 has a U-shaped cutout for the handlebars, and the TT1 has a big V shape. The TT2 used three fasteners to hold the lower/back with the front, and the TT1 used two---with the separation farther back. Tail section seems to be the "same", with the usual variations for a visible battery---or not, and the long downward extension on the left side---or both sides---or neither. MikeV

Revised several times. Yikes! Here are representative photos of the TT2 and TT1 fairing. These are from Jim Blomley (Two Wheel Classics) in the UK:

I hope this bike it a good representation of a TT2. Alas I did not note what year is was.

I have never seen that seat before however, and with the Murayama decal on the fairing it is a fair bet that this bike campaigned in Japan.

Cheers,

Yes this bike came from Japan. The differences I have seen in the TT2 to TT1 seat is the TT2 has a battery box formed into the seat with a removable panel in the front. The TT1 has the same hole but it has an open bottom in the fiberglass with an aluminum battery tray bolted to the frame. A single rubber strap going across the top of the battery from aluminum spools on the TT2 seat (the spools mounted in the fiberglass). Two straps going the opposite way of the TT2 on spools mounted to the battery tray on a TT1. Does that make sense? The picture I enclosed shows the bottom view of the TT1 battery tray. As I write this I am reminded of when I started working on TT's many years ago. It took me years to figure out the proper way a battery was mounted on a TT1. Man things have changed, having a Forum like this would have saved me years of frustration, and I'd probably have a full head of hair! Lou

Ciao Hello, I take the liberty to speak, even though our great friend Lou, knows his stuff about how and what is the story of these bikes fantastic.

bike is beautiful and well-preserved, the tt2 1982 with wheels 18 is equal tt2 identical to mine.

Even my bike tt2 has the battery into the fiberglass, and agree perfectly theories Lou.

The codon car was cut, but the bike is intact, even the steering plates with fork Marzocchi magnesium, are more narrow and small.

Beautiful bike !!

Thanks everyone for input. As for the vent in the fairing for the oil cooler, it looks like it can be drilled with many little holes or have a rectangle hole cut with gauze behind it. Which would be more correct on a TT1? Or as I'm starting to think maybe no two machines were the same! Boucher.

Hello Lou, I believe that the first units had made the holes on fiberglass, then they realized that fresh air is better than a nice fairing !!!

Hello friends, hello Lou !!
